Original KRIEGSMARINE U-Boat EM/NCO Overseas Cap for WW2 K-Verband Midget Submarine - Kleinst-U-Boot Schiffchen
I have not been able to trace this truly scarcely found item to an exact department of the Kriegsmarine, but that it was worn by a crew member of a K-Verbände unit is beyond doubt for me given the analogy used here: midget submarines like the Seehund, Molch and Biber all carried 2 torpedoes. Here is a nearly identical item for an officer crew, with a shield of clearly inferior quality but instantly recognizable.

This cap came from a collection out of which other items have recently been auctioned on eBay (see last photograph). According to the seller the lot came in an old French soap box with at least two items that link it to Brest, France - perhaps the dog tag in the photo may lead to the original wearer of the cap. In general, however, it proves rather tricky to learn who is behind a socalled Erkennungsmarke but one may try the Bundesarchiv.
